post-doctoral work

My current postdoctoral research focuses on:

• Developing methods for neonatal neuroimage analysis from clinical MR images.
  Some work on neonatal brain-tissue segmentation has been published.
• Developing methods for segmenting fiber bundles in DTI to overcome limitations of tractography-based tract extraction. Applying the methods to clinical studies related to the cingulum fiber bundle.

doctoral-research

My doctoral work, with Prof. Ross T. Whitaker at the Scientific Computing and Imaging (SCI) Institute, focused on:

• Developing methods for image segmentation and denoising founded on generic nonparametric statistical Markov models.
  The goal was to invent robust methods that are effective on a wide spectrum of image with little parameter tuning.
  These methods were applied to:
  • MR-image brain-tissue classification (very robust, improves Dice overlaps),
  • texture segmentation (avoids filter banks),
  • MRI denoising (preserves virtually all salient features), and
  • image restoration (ideal for texture-like images having complex degradations)

  This research led to a ~500K NSF grant.

graduate work

As part of my graduate research, I also developed methods for:

• reconstructing dynamic contrast-enhanced cardiac perfusion images, using temporal constraints and parametric models, to enable very sparse (15%) k-space acquisitions.
  This research was performed in collaboration with the Utah Center for Advance Imaging Research in the Department of Radiology.
